brooklyn and new york city ::: our trip to the east coast

I am SO excited to finally share our trip with you all. I don’t know what took me so long, really but it’s fun reliving parts of it now! I’ll do my best to let you know where we stayed, what we did and where we visited but if you have any questions on anything particular in this post (like our amazing apartment, maybe?) feel free to email me! During our trip, I shot digital and Adam shot film so there’s a mix of both jumbled in here.

We are so thankful for friends that snap our photos before we leave for the airport. You know, just in case it goes down. aaaand I’m morbid, forgive me.

This place was meant for us! Seriously! I don’t know why we didn’t take more photos of the interior. It was perfection with a little kitchenette and a tub right out in the open with a handheld shower head. Go big or go home right? It made showering interesting, to say the least. We grabbed coffee from there just about every morning….Well, the mornings we didn’t go to dunkin’ donuts anyways.NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY12 NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY13 NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY14 NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY15 NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY16 NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY17 NEW YORK & BROOKLYN - TRAVEL - MEGAN WELKER PHOTOGRAPHY18Our first full day in Brooklyn we visited the most hippster-est neighborhood of them all, Williamsburg. I get it. It’s adorable and has amazing little restaurants and shops adorning each and every perfect little street. I would totally get tricked into living there too. First up, we stopped at Black Brick and had, you guessed it, MORE coffee! Well, actually I had a chai and it was delish. We had the entire back patio to ourselves so we took advantage. One of my favorite memories from the trip. Also, Wythe Hotel is bitchin. We definitely want to stay there next time! After Wythe, we went across the street to The Brooklyn Brewery for some beer tasting before walking just about 3 miles (we walked way too much. in our minds cabs were dumb. why pay when you can walk? more on that later.) to dinner at THE AMAZING Marlow and Sons. A MUST! Such great food and an even more wonderful atmosphere. This place came highly recommended to us and I’m really glad we made it there. After walking all the way back to our apartment we got a slice of pizza at the corner pizza joint because, why not. Why we chose Saturday to do this is beyond me. We really weren’t thinking. There, of course, was a marathon happening on the bridge and there were about 1 million people but we ran into Adam’s family from Texas in the middle of the bridge which was so much fun! After the walk across the bridge, we had lunch then walked around Soho and had coffee at La Colombe Torrefaction. We’re still swooning over those coffee cups and have been searching for some like them ever since. We walked the cute streets of West Village and stopped by Carrie’s stoop, of course. After we walked through all of the parks and (I swear) ALL around New York, we went to see Romeo and Juliet with THE Orlando Bloom. We were feet away from him, it was so surreal. It was such a great show though! There’s something about live theater that I will always love. It was pretty late when we got out of the show but I still needed to have a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity so there we went. While we were there our phones were dying so we had to write down the directions so we knew how to get back to Brooklyn. It was an adventure. We started the day doing one of our favorite things, flea market-ing! We walked down to The Williamsburg Flea Market and had so much fun browsing around, wishing we had enough room in our luggage to take many, many things back with us! The one thing I desperately wanted to do in New York was go to Central Park so Sunday, we did. We walked all around Central Park until I started crying in the middle of the park because I tore/sprained/did something bad to my Achilles. It was then that I knew Adam was a keeper. Kidding, I knew that months and months ago but sitting in the middle of the park with tears falling down my cheeks as he sat next to me reassuring me that it was all okay and insisting we leave the park to find the nearest drug store so I could take some pain pills for my ankle instead. We had wine and cheese at a French Restaurant then went to S’mac because mac n’ cheese makes everything better. That night we went back to our apartment early so I could ice my ankle and recover a bit. It was then that we though, maybe taking cabs wouldn’t have been such a bad idea. We didn’t want to travel too far, plus I could hardly walk so we found Brooklyn’s best croughnut (according to the internet) and had a nice sugary treat before making our way to a really cool African restaurant for brunch!

  1. Megan, these are so fantastic! You are such a skilled storyteller.

  2. Anni says:

I love these! Your trip looks like a blast. Last time we were in Brooklyn, we stayed more in the Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill area, which was perfectly gorgeous and tree-lined brownstone street heaven, but I’d love to explore Greenpoint & Williamsburg, too.

  3. Kathrina says:

Ahhhh. I know, I already commented on Facebook but I love this. LOVE! And, I miss you guys.
